Keisen is pleased to welcome our new Professional,
Kazuya Sekiguchi, as well as our new Technical Advisor and
Translator Mayumi Akaki, M.D., Ph.D.
Mr. Sekiguchi joined the firm after working nine years at Daicel
Chemical Industries, the largest manufacture of inflator for air
bags in Japan, first as a analytical chemist and later as
a corporate patent attorney. While serving in Daicel's patent
department, he handled the company's patent prosecutions,
appeals and infringement trials, in addition to providing patent
research and expert opinions in the fields of biodegradable
plastics, organic and polymer materials, chiral technologies and
gas generating agent for air bags. Mr. Sekiguchi earned his
Bachelors as well as his Masters of Science degrees in
Engineering (Applied Chemistry) from the University of Tokyo.
While his experience enables him to handle a wide range of
technologies in the chemical arts, Mr. Sekiguchi's expertise in
applied chemistry makes him especially well-suited to handle
pharmaceutical patents including those in organic synthesis and
formulations.
Dr. Mayumi Akaki has over ten years of experience
in biomedical research. Having most recently served as a
research fellow at the Thomas Jefferson University, she
conducted studies in the field of infectious diseases using bio-informatics, protein chemistry and
cell and molecular biology research technologies. Previously, she worked for
the
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, one of
the institutes of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where
she was a visiting fellow conducting research in live cell
imaging. She also has extensive experience in biophysical
research methods. Dr. Akaki earned her medical degree at Miyazaki
University's Department of Medicine (formally Miyazaki Medical College), and her Ph. D. in Biology at
Tokai University, Japan.
